this.
Trenton ReynoldsI was driving back from dropping off my daughter at kindergarten this morning and I was realizing that I am in one of those moods where it's the I don't care. I don't care about you know every once in a while it's I do care deeply about a lot of things. I care what people think about me. I care about what I'm doing in my I care about my situation, my family. But every once in a while you have one of those days where it's just like, no, I don't, I don't care. - That's great. - And it's a wonderful, wonderful feeling for a little while. I think if it lasted too long, then I start getting a little bit self-conscious and feel shame, but it is a very invigorating feeling to have every now and again. - Can you give an example? Let's see, what would an example be? So I had to go pick up some stuff from Home Depot this morning after I dropped my daughter off, and I had my other daughter, I had Mara with me, which going to Home Depot with a baby can be a little bit, or a toddler can rough, but I didn't care. I didn't care that she was trying to grab everything, and she was throwing a fit, and other people were looking at me, and she was trying to crawl out of the cart while I was getting the screws, and I don't care. And then I had to take her from there to get a smog check, because yesterday... The first two places I tried to get a smog check at said that their machine for testing cars older than 2000 was broken. The first two places I went to both said that exact same thing. Our machine for cars before 2000 is broken. The third place I went to, the guy asked me for the paperwork from the DMV and I had forgotten it. So I'm like an hour and a half into this trying to get the stupid smog check and you know, I forgot to bring the thing. And it's 4 o'clock, so the chances of me getting back home and back to the smog check guy in the middle of traffic is like, forget about it. So I had to do that this morning. I had to go back with Mara in tow to get my smog check. And the guy's just kind of, he doesn't care. and I didn't care either. Yesterday, I cared. Yesterday, I thought, come on, dude. Like, help me out. Be a little bit, you know, I could be paying you money to do your job. You can at least, like, not act like you don't care. And he didn't care this morning, and that was totally fine with me. because I was right there with him. Like I felt, I felt kinship with him this morning. Whereas yesterday, it just kind of bothered me that he didn't care.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonYeah, that's interesting. That's really interesting. And to think of what going through life, not caring so much would be kind of fantastic sometimes to think about.
Trenton ReynoldsIt would be. I think those are the people that have millions of followers on YouTube because they're out there doing stuff because they don't care. They don't care what other people think about them. They don't care that they should be doing something more responsible. They should care about how they look and how they come across, but they don't. I think there's a lesson here. It's how you make money.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonYep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep.
Trenton ReynoldsYep.
Yes. just not caring
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI do your guitar sing a little something
Trenton ReynoldsI don't my guitar is at the studio what's the sound of that I think though we'll see there's a kryptonite right there I think even you just saying that I started to care.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOh, right.
Trenton ReynoldsI'm starting to, I'm feeling it. It's coming back. I'm starting to care.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonShoot. Oh.
Trenton ReynoldsIt's far enough that I think this is going to last for the episode. But, you know, it's just a switch. It's on and off. So I thought today if you're game, we would have it be a little bit more lighthearted. And we would just share some of our favorite Instagram accounts. So let's talk a little bit about Instagram because I have a suspicion that you have favorites on Instagram like I have favorites. I'm not – like it doesn't have to be necessarily even one – account, but maybe a couple accounts that are a certain type of account. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, that you never would have guessed that you would have been interested in, but now you are type deal, you know, or kind of thing that you like to see on Instagram. Yeah. So it can be a, it can be a specific account or it can be a series or kind of account that you find yourself enjoying or delighting in. Anyway, you get the, you get the, idea do you have it do you have enough of those kinds of yeah yeah yeah yeah totally okay do you
Sabrina Ward Harrisonwant to go first sure i will my first one is the girlfriend manifesto it is girlfriend manifesto
Trenton Reynoldsi'm gonna look that up right now
Sabrina Ward HarrisonAisha Ophelia is her name and I always love like what she posted what I'm seeing right now is success is a collection of well curated failures I love that I love that success is a collection of well career yes yep
Trenton ReynoldsFantastic, yeah. Do you repost these sometimes? Because I feel like...
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI do. Okay. I do. And I want to repost that one. So she's just awesome. I would love to meet her one day. So that's... There are just some good ones in there. I think she may have been the one who posted the one about when you start taking dental care of yourself. That one. Oh.
Trenton ReynoldsCool. We should try to contact her and see if she'd be interested in coming on the podcast. Yeah. The Girlfriend Manifesto, Aisha Ophelia. Very cool.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay. I'll read one more that she had posted by Bo Taplin. Little Everyday Joys. I'm beginning to recognize that real happiness isn't something large and looming on the horizon ahead, but something small, numerous, and already here. The smile of someone you love, a decent breakfast, the warm sunset, your little everyday joys all lined up in a row.
Hmm.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI like this one. This one is, the best thing you can do for your mental health is to stay low-key and focus on falling in love with yourself over and over again.
God.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI want to stay low-key. I want to be that kind of someone that people describe as a low-key person.
Yeah.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonNever said no one ever about me.
Trenton ReynoldsYes. That is the opposite of highly sensitive person, I think. Yep. Low-key person. Okay, I'm gonna say one that I'm a little hesitant to share, especially as my first one, because I don't want to create the wrong impression. But there's this class of Instagram account that... that shares people hurting themselves or doing stupid things. Not hurting themselves like in a sadistic way, but just, you know, massive things. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There is an account called Kook Slams, K-O-O-K-S-L-A-M-S, Kook Slams, And I think I kind of go back and forth between thinking this is a bad thing to laugh at somebody hurting themselves and a good thing, because I think it's important that, you know, I like that people can laugh when I do something stupid. Yeah. You know, and the whole, yeah, so I don't know, I think there's something human and healthy about laughter and, you know, taking things that are difficult to grapple with about the human condition. and not being afraid to laugh. But some of them are pretty brutal. The one with the shark. And every once in a while, I'm going to admit that I enjoy going in on kook slams and scrolling through. And I find a certain amount of joy. Maybe joy is not the right word, but it's like when a baby accidentally tips over a wedding cake. That is a really bad thing to happen.
Yeah.
Trenton ReynoldsBut, you know, I think there is, it's appropriate to laugh, you know, to find humor there.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonSo true. I'm just seeing the one, the first one up that says, with the shark in the wave.
Uh-huh.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonHashtag Sunday fun day. Hashtag he has no idea. Hashtag shark boy. That's so funny. Oh, that's so funny.
Trenton ReynoldsSome of the hashtags are the funniest part of the whole thing.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonYeah, that's true. When they're the humor accounts, that's really the funniest thing.
Yeah. Yeah.
Trenton ReynoldsAll right, so back to you. I'm going to say that as a group, what's, you know, these accounts that show you people doing painful and stupid things. Just idiot things. Big fails, just, yeah, yeah. Just eating it is a kind of Instagram account. but that I frequent, especially in my days. I know.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOh, God, that's a good, that's, I needed that laugh so bad. Oh, that's so good. There's also sarcasm only, sarcasm with a lower dash only. That's pretty funny, too. So. Okay. Okay. There's another one called Beige Sweater, I think. That's really funny, too. I have a real thing about... A while ago, I just had put in... Followed all these, you know, beautiful design magazines and interior design stuff. And I think it really does screw with your mental health to see the perfection... at all times of the day. It's not even real. It's just, it's totally unhealthy for your...
Trenton ReynoldsWell, and maybe that's it with the people eating it, is like so much of what we consume in media and social networks is this polished version of people's lives. Yeah. And it is kind of depressing as you compare your life to that and seeing somebody just totally get destroyed. Yeah. is, you know, it's like, well, my life's not so bad after all. You know, like they had a worse day than I did. That's a horrible thing to say.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay, so I've got one that I'd like to share.
Trenton ReynoldsOkay. That is an art account, and I have no idea how to say this name, but I'm going to try. It's Kaikezavaglia. studio, Kajkazlovagia studio, that's spelled C-A-Y C-E-Z A-V-A G-L-I-A studio. And she has mentioned Chuck Close coming to see her work and And it sounds like he's kind of a mentor of hers and has championed her. So I think she's, you know, this is a, she's well known and sold in high-end galleries. But it's embroidery. And she does these portraits that are just exquisite. And recently she's started to incorporate painted backgrounds in with the embroidery. And sometimes she'll show the back of the embroidery that's just as beautiful in its own way as the front. Anyway, the colors... That is absolutely remarkable. Wow. Yeah, it's dynamite. And some of them are very, very large, and some of them are... of them are more small, but you look at them and they look, the vibrant and variety of color looks painted. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I would think embroidery, it's so difficult, just the logistics of changing thread. Yes. Have got to make it hard to get that much variety, but they're just phenomenal. Wow. it's not just that they're photoreal, it's that the medium itself adds to the subject matter. And it has its own quality that I think is just magnificent. So check that out. Thank you for sharing that.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonThank you. Yeah.
Trenton ReynoldsAll of these we'll put links to on the website.
Great.
Sabrina Ward Harrisonwow yep she's great um
I Bye.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonThere's a guy that went to our high school, Chris D'Elia, who's a really successful comedian.
Yeah, he's a friend of mine.
Trenton ReynoldsIs he? He is. We were in drama together. are you still in touch with him um not as much i went to uh one of his fairly recent special recordings at the wiltern i think it was how did i not know this seriously i've gone to see him at
Sabrina Ward Harrisonlaugh factory several times have you really yeah oh my god like i really like him he's really funny oh
He's hilarious.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonAnd I kind of remember him because I think my sister, he was the same year as my sister. Yeah, so he's funny. Chris D'Elia. He does these funny things where he'll do a whole long... description about a picture about just how the person is just it's I don't know how to describe very very inappropriate very inappropriate very
Trenton Reynoldsvery inappropriate very explicit yeah but sometimes so incredibly funny he I don't know if you've ever seen any of his vines but some of his vines just destroy me they're so funny Bobby Burgers.
Yeah.
Trenton ReynoldsOkay, I did. I think I got the wrong Bobby Burgers. I got Bobby dot underscore dot burgers. So.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonNo, it's B-O-B-B-I-E burgers. All one.
Trenton ReynoldsOkay, Bobby Burger. Okay.
Sabrina Ward Harrison- So she does these beautiful, big floral pieces. And her studio is a dream also. But if you scroll down, I mean, it's just beautiful work.
Trenton Reynolds- Yeah, look at that studio.
- Yep.
Sabrina Ward Harrison- Very cool. - Yeah, really beautiful, large things.
Trenton Reynolds- This work reminds me of two of the artists that we've had interviewed on this show on an episode a while back, Patrice Dworkin and Jackie Leishman. I've been loving this stuff that have been coming out of their Instagram accounts recently, so I wanted to give them a plug. - Oh yeah. - They've been really active, both of them. I think especially just in the last week or so, it seems like Jackie has just been killing it. So shout out to Jackie Leishman and Patrice Dworkin.
Sabrina Ward Harrison- Oh, yes. How about Origin Magazine?
Trenton Reynoldsthe nail salons, like so how you do your fingernails, paint your fingernails.
Really?
Trenton ReynoldsYeah, and I'm going to say that today. I'm going to own that because I don't care. I don't care what you think about me. I'm just going to say that. You know, I subscribe to these accounts and deal with it, you know. I'm a dude. I'm a painter. I don't paint my nails, but I'm going to say I'm looking forward to the day when maybe I paint my daughter's nails. Oh, really? Yeah, kind of. What's one of them? I've never done it, so I don't know if that's actually... Okay, yeah, I'm trying to find the... I thought I had all my ducks in a row, and then it is It's just not turning out to be that way.
- But you don't care.
Sabrina Ward Harrison- I don't care. - No, I don't care either.
Trenton Reynolds- So if you just type in nails.
- Mm-hmm.
Trenton Reynolds- Okay, so I just typed in nails and got nail.feed. That doesn't look especially good. But let me tell you what I love about these fingernail accounts is they show you all these different techniques for masking and these little rockers that you can get to pull graphics up off of this template. and then transfer it to a fingernail. And this masking liquid that you can put around the cuticle to keep the paint from getting on your skin. What do they suggest for that? Yeah. Well, I don't know. There's... they didn't show the name of that product, but just that it exists. I never knew that such a thing existed. So looking at this, I just... Seeing the problem-solving, the technique, it has everything to do with and is related to the kind of problem-solving you do in oil and acrylic painting, where you're thinking about how to paint really small things with a big brush or trying to think about how to mask things or how to transfer things. like these are all things that I just find very interesting to see how they're they're accomplishing very intricate and cool designs on such a small surface area with these with these different techniques so Eden my daughter and I this is something that we do do on occasion is she'll lay down with me on the couch and we'll go through these fingernail videos and she'll so sweet she'll say oh that i like that one a lot or you know look at that color type deal anyway really uh introverted activity oh totally yeah live live and i could not do that because live is too squirrely and impatient she wants to hold the phone and she wants to scroll and eden's content just to chill with me and let me scroll through him and click on him and and throw in her commentary. Okay, one more that I'm going to throw out there that I just found is called Nails Clip, N-A-I-L-S-C-L-I-P, Nails Clip. I don't know if I subscribe to this one, but it looks like a good one. So they're short videos, and they just show you how they... Paint people's nails.
Cool. Cool. Dig it. Mm-hmm. Uh...
Sabrina Ward HarrisonUm, okay. Okay, your turn. I don't know if this is going in the podcast, but I've definitely subscribed to quite a few wedding accounts. Oh, this is going in.
Trenton ReynoldsI just told everybody that I follow Nailed.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay, so I'm just going to say it. I have never followed a wedding account before, but I'm having fun looking. you don't care you don't care people i don't care i love i i've never looked at wedding dresses i'm totally looking at wedding dresses i'm um cory and i are sending the emailing the back and forth to each other um yeah there's some beautiful beautiful things out there
Trenton ReynoldsIs it just dresses or is it the whole shebang?
Sabrina Ward HarrisonWe have a whole Pinterest page now that's a couple different... Yeah. No, it's the flowers, it's the atmosphere, it's the place, it's the tone. Right now, we're very much like... vintage bohemian elegant okay I've got
Trenton Reynoldsanother art account for you that I think is awesome Lush Hungarian Lush Hungarian L-U-S-H H-U-N-G-A-R-N r-i-a-n and i guess the artist's name is peter horvath i thought it was a female artist interesting but it's a an artist who makes collage and i think technically craft-wise they're just extremely well put together but i enjoy the sense of humor i enjoy the um it just kind of makes the best use of the medium collage I could kind of yeah beautiful great color great combination of different eras of imagery and kinds of imagery and there's abstraction and just think it's cool So, Lesch Hungarian.
Okay. Cool work.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay. So, Nicole Hess. She's maybe even listening to the podcast. Nicole, N-I-C-O-L-E, last name Hess, H-E-S-S. And she's doing these great little, I don't know how big they are, paintings. and they're just awesome.
Trenton ReynoldsOh yeah, these are great. Aren't they?
Mm-hmm.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI mean, to do each one of those every day, it's like those, the dog, the deer, the elephant, the rabbit, they're just, they're really great.
Trenton ReynoldsI like the mountain goat. Yeah. The mountain goat or rambler. or something. Buffalo. The otter. The sheep. The shorn sheep. Yeah, these are great. Very cool.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonYeah. I really love them. It's inspiring. I just, they're, I think they're beautifully resolved little paintings. Thanks. so Nicole M. Hess yeah Nicole M. Hess shout out to you and it looks like she has an Etsy shop maybe she sells them on there but I love it beautiful
Trenton Reynoldsokay another artist is Nicholas V. Sanchez and N-I-C-O-L-A-S-V-S-A-N-C-H-E-Z. And he does these drawings with a ballpoint pen. And I think just the fact, they're lovely little drawings, but the fact that he does them out of ballpoint pen is just... pretty astounding. So sometimes I like artists because of the imagery, you know, the subject matter, and sometimes I love them just for the sheer craft, you know, like, And I think this is one where I just can so much appreciate. Can you say spelling again one more time? N-I-C-O-L-A-S-V as in Victoria.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay. oh got it Sanchez okay yeah so cool artists they're they're you know most of them are pretty
Trenton Reynoldssmall but he does them in ballpoint pen and I have purchased now about three different kinds of ballpoint pen trying to replicate yeah Nicholas's results with no nothing near you know the success that he is able to achieve so much respect to Nicholas Wow okay I finally found the one that I had meant to start off with that was actually one of the first accounts that I found on Instagram and he he represents a larger kind of account. And that kind is doll makers, Russian doll makers. Wow. And his, his name is Michael Zajkov. M-I-C-H-A-E-L underscore Z-A-J-K-O-V. okay yes yes okay whoa yeah yeah and what's cool about there are there are several of these um doll maker accounts and uh what i love about his is he actually shows process videos where you know you He shows the armatures and the eyes that he used in the paint. And anyway, so love seeing the process. But also they're just extraordinary.
Wow.
Trenton ReynoldsAnd. Wow.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonThey're so realistic.
Yeah. They're like. Wow. Wow.
Trenton ReynoldsLike, some of them are a little uncanny valley, like uncomfortably not realistic enough, you know? Yeah. Some of them are a little haunting, but there are so many that are just unbelievable. so Michael Zajkov and there's a whole there's quite a few
Sabrina Ward Harrisonwhat does he make is it porcelain
Trenton ReynoldsI think it's sculpey or it's a it's a what is sculpey it's a kind of kind of modeling clay
God, amazing. Yeah. So...
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI want to throw a little thing I recommend. I'll get the link to it. But Corey and I have been watching the series of The Impressionists, and just each DVD is a different impressionist. artist and just their whole story and just really a wonderful, at your local library, nice thing to rent and watch.
Trenton ReynoldsDo you know who it's made by?
Sabrina Ward HarrisonIt was done by A&E. A&E. Yeah. That's it.
Trenton ReynoldsOkay, why don't we do one more each, and then we'll call it a day.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonMine is Humans of New York.
Trenton ReynoldsHumans of New York.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonYeah, it's Humans of NY. And it just is a portrait, and then it's someone's story in their own words. Really powerful.
Trenton ReynoldsWow, that's great. I love that idea.
Mm-hmm.
Trenton ReynoldsAnd I think shows the power of some of these platforms that are such a unique format, you know, just like a picture and some text, you know, that's it. Truthfulness. Yeah, it kind of lends itself to this. The intimacy. of just single person, the little peek into the life of somebody. - Yeah. - These are great, great pictures.
- What about you?
Trenton Reynolds- Well, mine's nothing so beautiful as that. There's another class of Instagram account that I enjoy. I've got a soft spot in my heart for caricature. And there's a lot of really great caricature artists on Instagram. Two that I'll mention here are Ernesto Priego, E-R-N-E-S-T-O underscore P-R-I-E-G-O. Ernesto Priego. And he does caricatures of, you know, well-known people and people, rock stars, movie stars. Anyway, I enjoy his style.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonOkay, got it. wow they're just fun
they're fun
Trenton Reynoldsand like caricaturing is difficult to do difficult to do well I think he does he does it really well
Yeah. Cool.
Trenton ReynoldsAnother caricature account is Rob Illustration, R-O-B, Illustration, all one word. Thank you. And the artist's name is Rob Hren. Oh, my God. And he's a bit more painterly. Yeah. Anyway. Also, really, you just enjoy his aesthetic and the silliness. But also this kind of psychology and gravity to... Something that people notice. What about you?
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI don't know. What do you think? I don't know.
Trenton ReynoldsI think your eyes too, but for a different reason than mine. I think the color of your eyes is very commanding. Hmm.
Sabrina Ward Harrisonyeah just some of these smiles I'm like oh god yes okay good for spontaneous this is an unorchestrated for no reason other than we just like this stuff yeah
Trenton ReynoldsYes, and if you have Instagram accounts that you think are awesome, why don't you post them? Tell us about them. I'll put a little form in the show notes where you can submit your favorite Instagram accounts. and I'd love to share.
Sabrina Ward HarrisonI want to be sure to acknowledge the wonderful comments we got on iTunes. Thank you so much for the reviews.

And then, love this podcast by Audrey Ray. This is such a great podcast. As an artist, it is refreshing to hear how other artists work, feel, and live. This is easily one of my favorite podcasts. Sabrina Ward HarrisonAnd a week from tomorrow is the first True Living experience in Madison. People are arriving. And it begins. So excited. I have all these little things getting ready. And it's going to be beautiful. And Corey's helping with behind the scenes elements of getting things organized. And such great women coming. And I love that I limited it to just six women. I just love that so much. It's just. much smaller than I usually have done in the past. So it's truly embracing the introvert. This is an introverted tribe. This is going to be perfect. Shout out to these women that are on their way. And I can't wait to meet you.
And now... just
Trenton Reynoldswhat I think you gotta continue not caring that's what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do that the rest of the day I've just decided right now in this moment, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do anything that will compromise my ability to not care I'm just not gonna do it and I'm not gonna care I'm not gonna care about the fact that I'm not doing things that make me care so I think you should do the same
Sabrina Ward Harrisonokay everybody let's do this
